The rules of the game have changed (a little). If you're thinking of coming to work in France yourself - here are the new measures you need to know about from the last few weeks...

📌 Changing the name of “talent passports” to “talent”. These cards for highly skilled workers are changing their names. This change has the merit of removing frequent confusion with the word “passport”, which could have been misleading.

📌 It is now possible to apply with a 6-month contract for the Talent European Blue Card (official name: Talent - highly skilled worker), compared with 12 months before.

Previously, a minimum 12-month contract was required to qualify for this card, which was intended for highly skilled workers. From now on, 6 months will suffice, allowing us to adapt to the realities of the job market.

📌 Still for the European Blue Card: 3 years of relevant experience (out of the last 7 years) may now suffice in certain professions. This is a relaxation of conditions and recognition of professional experience as equivalent to diplomas.

📌 Holders of an European Blue Card issued by another member state of the European Union can now enter the French job market more quickly: after 12 months' residence in that member state, compared with 18 months previously. From the second mobility, this period is reduced to 6 months. This measure facilitates intra-European mobility.

​

📌 For non-EU qualified doctors, dental surgeons, midwives or pharmacists eligible for a Talent - medical and pharmacy professions residence permit. The salary threshold to be justified must be at least equal to the 2ᵉ step of the emoluments scale for associate practitioners, i.e. approximately €41,386 gross/year to date.

​

📌 For students who have just completed their studies and wish to prepare their transition with a RECE (Recherche d'emploi - Création d'entreprise) card, end of debate, the diploma must have been obtained in the last 12 months, preceding the application. Previously, there was legal uncertainty.

​

📌 Finally, the procedure for liberal professions and entrepreneurial projects is now standardized.

Previously, depending on the nature of your project, you had to request a pre-approval either before or at the same time as applying for a visa or residence permit. From now on, pre-approval is compulsory before in all cases, regardless of the type of project.

​

📌 And last but not least, the list of “tension professions” - those where recruitment is particularly difficult in each region - has been updated. If the job appears on this regional list, this simplifies and speeds up the recruitment process.
